GoPro HERO4 Session

GoPro has announced a new camera, the HERO4 Session, that is already on my "to purchase" list. Just like any tool, it won't be right for every job, but I think GoPro is showing us once again why they are the clear leaders in the action and adventure arena.

The HERO4 Session will shoot 1440p30, 1080p60, and 720p100 for video and 8MP stills. The camera itself is waterproof, removing the need for an additional case that adds size and weight. The HERO4 Session is $399.99 is available for order on July 12. The only thing I immediately wish was different is the internal battery, but I'm sure that is a trade-off for it to be this size.

Overall, I can't wait to get my hands on one. It will be an everyday carry for me.

Derek Lieu's Keyboard Shortcuts

The easiest way to become a more efficient video editor is to take the time to customize your keyboard shortcuts and then use them. It's simple, but effective and Derek Lieu gives some great suggestions on where to start if you're not already doing this.

While the video below is focused on Premiere Pro CC, his full post gives a breakdown of the same shortcuts in Final Cut Pro 7, FCPX, and Avid Media Composer. It's definitely worth your time, even if you prefer one of those.

Start With Why

Why you do something is more important than what you do. I have heard this before, but never articulated as clearly as Simon Sinek does in this TED talk. Honestly, I'm really confused as to how I've not come across this talk or the book before now.

If you're in the same boat I was, stop now and watch Simon Sinek explain why you should "start with why."

The Sound of Jurassic World

I just now came across Michael Coleman's SoundWorks Collection,  the most recent being "The Sound of Jurassic World". In this collection, you get a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration and process of the teams that are creating the audio landscapes we experience and it's incredible. Now I just have to find time to go watch all the ones I've missed up to this point.

I haven't seen the film yet, but will definitely have to catch it while it's still in the theater. If this is any indicator, I'm sure it conjure up the same boyhood excitement the original Jurassic Park did.
